Baldur’s Gate 3 gobbled up five awards in London today at The Golden Joystick Awards, an annual event put on by PC Gamer’s publisher. That’s Larian CEO Swen Vincke hugging the haul with a big grin in the photo above, which was posted on X by Larian director of publishing Michael Douse.
The D&D RPG, which received PC Gamer’s highest review score in years, won the following awards at this year’s Golden Joysticks:
- Best Storytelling
- Best Visual Design
- Best Game Community
- PC Game of the Year
- Ultimate Game of the Year
Additionally, Larian won Studio of the Year, which is why Vincke’s got his arms wrapped around six Joysticks in the photo. Actor Neil Newbon also won Best Supporting Performer for his role as Baldur’s Gate 3 companion Astarion. Counting those two, Baldur’s Gate 3 won a record seven Golden Joystick Awards.
The only game aside from Baldur’s Gate 3 to win multiple awards this year was Final Fantasy 16: It wo…
Baldur’s Gate 3 has had a pretty smooth launch overall, which is especially impressive given how expansive and complex it is. But no game ships bug-free, and Larians’ big RPG is no exception—and so today the studio has rolled out the first hotfix, which clears up more than 150 “bugs and issues.”
One rare but nasty bug that came to light earlier today was preventing players from saving or loading their game, which is obviously a big problem in a massive game like this. Today’s hotfix doesn’t fully fix that issue, but it does (or at least should) keep it from happening anymore: Larian said the problem is related to cross-saves, and since there’s no need for cross-save functionality until the PlayStation 5 version comes out on September 5, it’s disabled the option entirely and will fix it between now and then. Larian said players shouldn’t notice any difference in the game, and Steam Cloud saves will be unaffected.

“You know I’ve been on some amazing movie sets,” drawls David Hasselhoff to the camera, “but my favourite set of all? Planet Earth.” Nailed it Hoff, makes ya think. Not content with his bit-part in the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Baywatch and Knight Rider star now has his sights set on climate change and, specifically, getting us gamers off our behinds to do something about it.
Hasselhoff is the face of a new campaign called Make Green Tuesday Moves (MGTM), a “videogames climate change alliance”, which aims to offer unique DLC on the first Tuesday of every month using various celebrity endorsements. “MGTM will see proceeds from the sale of in-game items—which can comprise new and/or upcycled DLC goods such as characters, costumes and objects—invested into fully certified sustainability projects by not-for-profit digital platform PlanetPlay.”
So: buy the DLC, donate to a good cause. The games involved are casual titles on the Google Play store called things…
In the midst of all the firefights and major orders, one of the most notable battles Helldivers 2 players went up against was with the game itself. It came in the form of a review bombing campaign in retaliation for Sony removing Helldivers 2 from sale in 177 countries and territories that don’t have access to PSN.
After reaching some serious lows on its Steam page with over 211,000 negative recent reviews, bringing Helldivers 2 down to “Mixed” status, developer Arrowhead tried its hardest to claw back some of the love: “We are talking solutions with Sony, especially in non-PSN countries,” now-former Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt tweeted. “Your voice has been heard, and I am doing everything I can to speak for the community – but I don’t have the final say.”
This statement actually only made things worse for a time, as many players were frustrated at the apparent deflection of blame. Things only really began to look better for Arrowhead after Pilestedt shared…
Between Embracer laying off thousands of employees and Microsoft shuttering studios like Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks, the recent wave of high profile multibillion-dollar acquisitions have proven to be terrible for the games industry. It’s hard to look at any game studio that’s been gobbled up by a new parent company and not be worried that it may soon be gutted just to promise shareholders 11% higher profits for the next fiscal year. This vile trend was on my mind when I visited FromSoftware in May for PC Gamer’s cover story on Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree—despite seeming quite independent, the studio does have a parent company, Kadokawa Corporation.
Kadokawa isn’t Microsoft big, but it is still big, with revenue of about $1.65 billion in its last fiscal year. FromSoftware is one of Kadokawa’s major earners, but the company also makes significant money in the manga publishing and anime markets (Delicious in Dungeon is one of its recent hits).

No Man’s Sky nearly burned up on its atmospheric entry back in 2016—it promised the universe, and only delivered a sort-of-okay space game. PC Gamer gave it a middling 64 at launch in our No Man’s Sky review, with Christopher Livingston remarking: “I’ve touched an infinite universe and walked away with some nice vacation photos.”
Despite that, developer Hello Games has done a bang-up job polishing it over the years, pouring gallons of elbow grease onto a game that would’ve otherwise faded into security via a whole heap of updates. Its overall Steam reviews are now “Mostly Positive” on Steam—an unthinkable reality eight years ago.
And now it’s free—until February 19, that is. To celebrate the launch of its newest expedition update, Omega, Hello Games is allowing everyone to download the game and play it in a charitably long weekend.
The update has a freight load of new stuff to get your grubby little space mitts on: overhauls to expeditions a…
